The
international register of identification codes for container owners was
originated by the Bureau International des Containers (BIC) and has
been published continually since 1970. 国际集装箱所有者识别代码注册由国际集装箱局（BIC）创立，并自 1970 年以来持续发布。

It was subsequently adopted by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) in 1972, forming an essential part of the ISO 6346 standard : “Freight Containers – Coding, Identification and Marking”.随后在 1972 年被国际标准化组织（ISO）采纳，成为 ISO 6346 标准的重要组成部分：“货运集装箱——编码、识别和标记”。

ISO Alpha-codes (container prefixes) for identification of container
owners registered with BIC may be used as unique identity marking of
containers in all international transport and customs declaration
