INFO FROM DHL:
With regards to batteries contained in equipment. No prior approval is required as long as the following requirements are met.
- Each initial strong outer package (capable of withstanding the normal rigours associated with movement within a transport chain) has equipment with 4 cells / 2 batteries or less and these are contained in the equipment
- The equipment is protected against inadvertent activation and significant movement within the package
- Any number of these initial packages can be placed in a larger box and the above still applies. (see note below)
- If you are shipping to and from Asia Pacific countries on our network. In which case there is a specific description of contents that needs to be used “Lithium ion batteries in compliance with section II of PI967 (4 cells / 2 batteries or less)”
Please note that IATA have limited the total number of packages to a maximum of two per consignment. However they have provided a transitional period where more than two packages can travel until the 31st December 2016 , although shippers are advised to take steps to implement this requirement as soon as possible.
Specifically also for China, these shipments will need to be accompanied with a copy of the Material Safety Data Sheet & a Non Dangerous Goods test certificate issued by a CN Government test facility. The manufacturers should already have these documents available.
If sending more than 4 cells / 2 batteries contained in equipment, batteries on their own (this will include Powerbanks) or batteries travelling with equipment but not attached, prior audit and approval is required before shipping on the DHL network.
