To Profiteer or not to Profiteer...
Since CNY, this virus has impacted my business in far reaching ways. Initially we saw a tidal wave of manufacturing delays (...and innocently thought this was a purely China-based issue.) I don't think any of us understood the supply chain disruptions would evolve into a global health, social and economic Tsunami.
As the virus quickly spread... and manufacturing re-booted in China... my email inbox filled with offers of millions of face masks, hand sanitisers, gloves and other PPE.
Days and weeks past, and I started to see lots of businesses reselling with a profit - and I questioned why I wasn't jumping to follow suit. Was that stupidity or ethics?
Our customers were forced to shut their doors... and I stared a rather different turnover reality in the face, wrestled with utilising Furlough, and worried about the mental health impacts of workload, working from home, and isolation on my team.
So my thinking on all of this: There are times and places for profit to be important, and it will never be my primary driver in business. I may not be the richest, or the most aggressive... and I am ok with that. I would rather help than capitalise.
If anyone needs my help, just ask.
