The trees and grass know that soon spring will go away,
草树知春不久归，
Of red blooms and green leaves they make gorgeous display.
百般红紫斗芳菲。
But willow catkins and elm pods are so unwise,
杨花榆荚无才思，
They wish to be flying snow darkening the skies.
惟解漫天作雪飞。
【译文】
已是晚春，花草树木们知道春天很快就要回去了，翻箱倒柜地把所有的美丽解数都使出来了，一起争芳斗艳，一起万紫千红，一起花团锦簇。
可怜杨花和榆钱没有什么惊艳的私藏，也没有什么才情，实在想不出什么别致的表达喜悦和不舍的方式，憨拙得只知道像雪花一样漫天飞舞。
