In early autumn I'm sad to see falling leaves,
早秋惊落叶，
They're dreary like a roamer's heart that their fall grieves.
飘零似客心。
They twist and twirl as if struggling against the breeze,
翻飞未肯下，
I seem to hear them cry, "We will not leave our trees."
犹言惜故林。
【译文】
早秋，落叶飘飞如雪，令人惊心。落叶的飘零无依多像在外漂泊的人的心情。
那离枝的树叶翻飞盘旋久久不肯落地，似乎述说着百般舍不得离开树林的心情。

此诗以描写入秋落叶抒发作者身处他乡的无奈和思归怀乡之情。
